About 300 strong YMA leaders led by Central YMA Office Bearers surveyed illegal settlers and liquor sellers in Phunchawng and Rangvamual today. According to the preliminary report 81 foreingers and liquor sellers were found in Rangvamual and over 100 such persons were found in Phunchawng sub village. Further action to be taken against them will be decided in the next Central Executive Committee Meeting. In reply to questions the Central YMA leaders said, enthusiasm and active participation were noticed in the campaign for protection of Mizoram and the people. They also expressed gratitude to the Branch YMA leaders of Phunchawng and Rangvamual for extending cooperation to them.

Rajya Sabha member, Lalhmingliana alleged that the collapsed PWD Office Buidling in Laipuitlang which damaged several buildings was govt. made disaster. Addressing Media persons in Aizawl Press Club today, the MP alleged that the disaster had happened because of negligence of duty by the state PWD which was advised repeatedly to dismentle the building before it collapsed. Champhai North MLA, TT Zothansanga distributed 240 bundles of CGI Sheets for roofing to 60 poor families of Champhai town area today. The CGI Sheets were purchased with MLA’s Local Area Development fund and distributed the same at the scale of 4 bundles per family to the poor people who cannot cover their house with CGI Sheets. This is the third time the MLA distributed CGI Sheets to the poor families. With this TT Zothansanga had distributed 1420 bundles of CGI Sheets to 355 families.

Serchhip Sub Hqrs. YMA assisted 10 families of Serchhip town whose houses were completely damaged by recent cyclone. Each of the 10 families were given cash assistance of 20 thousand rupees which was donation collected by the sub Hqrs. YMA and the same will be handed over to the cyclone victims through the Branch YMAs. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner has also given cash assistance to the tune of 15 thousand rupees to the families whose houses were completely damaged. Cash assistance also is given to the families whose houses were partially damaged.

Work for restoration of Power transmission lines damaged by recent cyclonic storms in various places of the state is still going on till today. According to official sources, 33 KV transmission line from Luangmual sub station to W. Phaileng and Mamit is still unservicable. The Departmental staff were deployed today to check the internal line which maybe disrupted by fallen trees and the branches. Report of clearance of the line is still awaited. Meanwhile, the damages of electric poles and 33 KV lines from Kolasib to Kawnpui which supply power to the villages in the area was restored yesterday and distribution of power could be resumed since last night.

Addressing a crowded Press Conference in Aizawl Press Club today, the MPCC Media Deptt. Chairman, C. Lalruata said, the MNF Party President had nothing when he came over ground in 1986. When he made declaration of the valute of his assets in 2003 Assembly Elections he held cash and properties worth of 54 lakh, 18 thousand, 61 and 94 paise, this has gone up to 1 crore, 38 lakh, 2 thousand, 241 and 26 paise in a span of the next 5 years. When the ACB chargesheeted him inconnection with disproportionate assets the value of his properties has gone up to 8 crore, 82 lakh, 67 thousand, 213 and 35 paise. The MPCC Media Deptt. charmain also alleged that unsecular view and attitude of MNF Party leaders has created a rift between Political Parties.

Mizoram State Museum joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Museum Day today. The function held in this connection at the Museum Library room was graced by the Art & Culture Secretary, C. Thatkunga as the Chief Guest. The function was presided over by the Art & Culture Director, Ngurbiaka. To mark celebration of the day, the Museum was open for all visitors without ticket. ACB has chargesheeted former Health Minister, R. Tlanghmingthanga and former AH&Vety Director, Dr. C. Sangnghina. According to ACB sources, the chargesheets were submitted to Prevention of Corruption Act Court. The chargesheets were framed against the two accused in connection with disproportionate assets. The former Health Minister is also chargesheeted for alleged misutilization of 10 crores rupees of Mizoram Health Care Society and misused of power.

Kadaicherra-Damcherra-Zamuang-Kanhmun-Tuilutkawn (KDZKT) road is damaged by heavy rain yesterday. According to Official sources, the road surface measuring about 80 meters between Tuidam and Kawrtethawveng is washed away by the rain. A number of vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road. Meanwhile, the PWD Highway Division engaged Gaytri Project Ltd. to reconstruct a new road on the side of it. The work is in progress and the road is expected to be re-opened in two days. Meanwhile, the National Highway 54 also is blocked by landslide between Zero Point and Kawlchaw in South Mizoram. The landslide is expected to be cleared soon if weather condition improves. Road blocks near Tut river and near Kawnpui and Aizawl Silchar road were cleared this afternoon for all types of vehicles.

Cooperation Minister, JH Ro\huama inaugurated MIZOFED Gas Showroom in Ramhlun yesterday. The Showroom building was constructed at the cost of 26 lakh, 91 thousand rupees at a site freely alloted to MIZOFED. Addressing the function, the Cooperation Minister reminded the employees of MIZOFED to work for the people with renewed dedication. He also underlined the need for expansion of cooperative movement in Mizoram to provide essential commodities to the people at cheaper rates. According to the report, MIZOFED has gas distribution agent not only in Aizawl but also in Champhai, Kolasib Serchhip, Saiha and Mamit.

Addressing the quarterly review meeting held in Health Directorate Conference Hall today, the Director also asked all the TB patients to take treatment as per the prescription to ensure cure. Aizawl Municipal Council mourned the death of 17 persons in recent landslide at Laipuitlang. A minute of silent was observed at the meeting held in AMC session hall yesterday after obituary reference were given by members representing all the Parties. The function was presided over by the Chairman, CT Zakhuma. This was followed by a seminar on Aizawl City Master Plan-Vision 2030 in which Assistant Engineer, Lalmalsawma explained the Plans by powerpoint presentation.

Aizawl, May 11, 2013 (PTI): 10 persons were killed and seven missing in a massive landslide triggered by a cyclonic storm and heavy pre-monsoon rainfall that swept away nine houses in Laipuitlang area here early this morning.

10 bodies, including five of women, have been recovered while seven persons suspected to be trapped under the debris and feared dead, SP (Traffic) Lallianmawia, who is one of the supervisors of the rescue operations, said.
